Eco Packaging

2017

It is an internal project at The Gobo to transform jewelry packaging into eco-friendly using sustainable materials to address over-packaging in Korea. It included a campaign that ran throughout the year, raising awareness about this problem and promoting a shift towards a more sustainable culture in the designer brand market.

In traditional jewelry packaging, six steps were typically involved, including the use of single-use plastics. This kind of multi-layered approach had become so normalized that it was rarely questioned. Although there had been ongoing discussions about the issue of over-packaging in the domestic market, awareness remained low, and only a few companies took practical steps to address it at the moment.

Design

In 2016, we undertook a significant initiative to minimize packaging processes and transition to more sustainable materials. This project was guided by three core criteria:
  1. Functionality: Ensuring the packaging adequately protects products from damage.
  2. Brand Identity: Maintaining and reflecting our distinctive brand essence.
  3. Aesthetic Appeal: Creating a visually pleasing and engaging design.

After a year of development and refinement, we adopted 100% recycled paper paired with metal foil printing to achieve an elegant and eco-friendly finish. The design features curved lines that symbolize the brand’s softness, with THE GOBO's slogan, “There is something special in you,” prominently displayed on the front. The back includes detailed information about the sustainable materials used, reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility

Campagin

After release, we faced a problem that some customers were not satisfied with the new packaging and immediately launched a campaign to explain enough through multi-content. The campaign lasted a year and resulted in zero complaints afterwards and even garnered positive reviews. Also, it initiated a sustainable culture in the designer’s brand market.
